Crisis Resources
Immediate support for those in the midst of a crisis.
- 911 – The North American emergency telephone number if you’re in immediate danger.
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-TALK (8255) (En Español: 888-628-9454) – A 24/7 hotline that connects callers to the nearest Lifeline crisis center, where they can access crisis counseling and obtain mental health referrals.
- Crisis Text Line – A 24/7 text line that services anyone in any type of crisis by connecting them with a support counselor. Simply text “HELLO” to 741741.
Support Groups
National and local groups who can offer support and resources as you heal.
- Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance – Provides support and education for people living with depression or bipolar disorders.
Government Resources
Official mental health resources provided by the US government.
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): 800-662-HELP (4357) – A 24/7/365 helpline for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. Available in English and Spanish. Per their website, SAMHSA can also “provide referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations, and offer “free publications and other information.”
- Mental Health and Addiction Insurance Help – A US Department of Health and Human Services website for resources about mental health care insurance coverage.
Professional Organizations
Mental health organizations that provide advocacy, support, information, research, and prevention services.
- National Empowerment Center – Provides information and advocacy resources for those diagnosed with mental illness.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Supports and advocates for individuals and family members with mental disorders.
- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – A national support organization with local chapters that provide suicide information and prevention resources, support for survivors, and related research.
- Mental Health America – Online screening tests for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, PTSD, and more.
- Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) – A federally supported resource center that, among other things, provides information, resources, and tools related to suicide.
- National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) – A public-private partnership between more than 250 national partners with the goal of transforming health systems and preventing suicide.
- Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) – Helping consumers and professionals improve the quality of life of those with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and co-occurring disorders.
- AlcoholScreening.org – Provides health and risk guidelines and resources related to an individual’s alcohol use.
- Partnership to End Addiction – Helps families and communities address substance abuse.
